Scooby Doo! First Frights Wii Game Review

Released in September 2009, Scooby Doo! First Frights is a well-polished game for the
Wii  system that captures the feel and character of the original Scooby Doo series.  This game is everything a Scooby fan could ask for with exciting mysteries to  solve. There is an excellent mixture of animated scenes and gaming action. This  game is just like being in an actual episode of Scooby Doo. Great fun for the  whole family! Simple enough for your four year old to play, but difficult enough  for the older kids and adults to be entertained. The gang splits up, which provides you with the chance to play as different characters while trying to solve the mysteries. For instance, you may play as Shaggy and Scooby while they search for clues, then the scene changes and you can play as other members of the gang while they explore other areas and search for more clues. The gang collects Scooby snacks to purchase special costumes for  each member. These costumes give the characters special privileges. 

There is minimal violence. When villains are destroyed, they disappear and leave behind Scooby snacks, which is the source of your points. The game does not contain blood or guts making it suitable for all ages. This game can be played with single or multiplayer. Players can join the game at anytime and quite at anytime without interrupting the game. Games can also be saved and continued at anytime without losing game information.

This is one of the games that we consider to be a bargain buy. We purchased ours for about $15.00, which is a great deal, considering how much we like it. You can’t go wrong with this game because it can provide hours of fun for all ages. Be warned, you will get hooked  on this game. It is simply, addictive.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Game Review

As we mentioned in an earlier post, the selling point for us with the Nintendo Wii Red console bundle was the fact that we also got the New Super Mario Bros. Wii game with the purchase. Being a fan of the original 3 Super Mario Bros. games from the old NES, having new worlds for Mario to conquer and more intrigued us. 

The  feel of the game was very familiar, especially by holding the Wii remote  sideways – giving it a feel of the old system. And, we are visited by some of  the original “bad guys” which try to stand in our way like the goombas and  troopa koopas. But, we had a new arsenal to fight them off. We have the fire  power of old, but there have been  several additions for Mario and friends to take advantage of such as Propeller  Mario, which helps Mario to fly via shaking the Wii remote. And the opposite of  the fire power is now prevalent, with Mario now being able to gain the power to  throw ice, which freezes the enemies for a time.  Penguin Mario gives him the ability to walk on  the ice without slipping (which is first seen inWorld 3). Mini Mario is helpful in travelling  though some of the small pipes that are seen in later worlds.

One of  the highlights of this game is the fact that you can have some help in getting  through the worlds. New Super Mario Bros. Wii gives you the opportunity to work  with up to three of your friends, with the multi-player option. The multi-player  option can prove to be difficult (especially for me and members of my family).  But, the one good thing about having more players is the world does not end when  your lives are up.  Yoshi returns in this  game, although in brief fashion. But, he does prove helpful, as Mario can ride  him through certain worlds and pick up the enemies with Yoshi’s tongue. 

All in  all, this game is exactly what old school Nintendo lovers needs for their Wii console. This game gives us the opportunity to relive some of our childhood, by  battling Bowser and his kids. We have had a great time playing this game for hours  on end.

Limited Edition Red Wii Bundle Review

We decided to start shopping  around for our Wii system the weekend before Thanksgiving last year. The price for  each hardware bundle was the same everywhere we looked. But, we noticed that  there was a color on the store shelves besides the white and black consoles,  which are the standards that have been offered for quite some time now. Nintendo released a red version of the Wii to commemorate the  25th anniversary of the NES and the original Super Mario Bros. game in 2010. The selling  point for the limited edition red bundle (which was just released on November 7,  2010) was the inclusion of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii game. With both of us  being fans of the first Mario Bros. games from the NES, having the lastest  installment in that gaming series (virtually a $50.00 value) included was a big  selling point.

All of the consoles come with  one original Wii remote (with MotionPlus) and one nunchuk. With the anniversary  edition, the controllers are red to match the console. Plus, you still get the  Wii Sports game that is standard with any Wii purchase. The white and black  bundles also come with the Wii Sports Resort.  

But, what a bonus with the red  anniversary edition Wii, getting the hit game New Super Mario Bros. Wii with the  package. We will be providing our take of the Mario game in a later review.

All in all, we are very satisfied with our selection. It has provided several hours of enjoyment for not only us, but other members  of our family, as well. We are looking forward to enjoying our  new Wii system for years to come.

1 Year Anniversary of our Wii Gaming Experience

Here is the background of our first Wii experience. My wife and  I decided that our Christmas present for each other last year would be a  Nintendo Wii. The notion of this just came up all of a sudden...just out of the  blue, with not much thought put in it. But, we are here to tell you that we made  an excellent choice. Our purchase was one of the Wii Limited Edition Red console  bundles, with the New Super Mario Bros. Wii game right before Thanksgiving. Of  course, we were not going to wait until Christmas to hook this up. Since our  purchase last year, we have added another Wii remote and 15 additional  games to our set up.
 
The purpose of this review blog is to bring you  game and product reviews from a husband and wife combo that game for the sheer  fun of it. We certainly do not consider ourselves hardcore gamers. The exact  opposite is very much the case with us. Instead of playing six hours per day, we  are more likely to play about six hours per week.
Our lifestyles, just will not  allow any more time, even if we wanted to (we are both teachers). The Wii gives  us time to do something together and have fun at the same time. We enjoy  competing with each other with the games that we have. We usually end up  laughing hysterically when we try to help each other out at certain points,  which usually ends up backfiring on us. 

Over the coming days and weeks, we will be providing  our reviews on the games that we currently have. Hopefully, you will find our reviews helpful in deciding what  games to add to your collection and you will come back often. We want you to add your comments to our reviews, too.
